The Fairy Godmother (Shrek)

Claim: The Fairy Godmother from Shrek belongs best in circle 8, fraud, more specifically in the ninth bolgia as a sower of discord between kin.
Data: She blackmails Harold, getting angry at him when he does not follow her manipulation at first and "Give her the potion" (Shrek) that would have her fall in love with Prince Charming. She also tries to create chaos between Shrek and Fiona, for her own personal gain of having her son marry Fiona instead.
Warrant: Dante places Bertand de Born in the ninth circle of Hell for separating Henry ll from his father, which is similar to how the Fairy Godmother hurt the relationship between Fiona and her father, Harold, by persuading him to go against his daughter's wishes and try and get rid of Shrek. One quality of the Sowers of Discord is that they work with their own self interest in mind, which is clear in the Fairy Godmother as she only wants her son on the throne, even though he is entirely unfit to rule anything seeing as how he as no intelligence.
Backing: A sower of discord causes chaos by manipulating people into choosing dark paths

Counterclaim:Some may instead put the Fairy Godmother in the third circle with the gluttons. This is possible because as shown whenever something does not go her way, she tends to go towards food. When Harold refuses to cooperate with her the first time, she went to the drive thru and ordered food, ruining her diet. Also, when the potion factory she screamed "Somebody bring me something deep fried and smothered with chocolate!" (Shrek).

Rebuttal: While she does eat too much food, the fairy godmother belongs in the fraud circle because that is what truly caused chaos and distress for the main characters of the film, having much more of an effect on society. Her manipulation of Harold and Shrek when she tried to get her son to the throne was much more harmful than her overeating, which really only affected her.
